- Matching benches, coffee tables and console tables
A recent table: oak and stainless steel, San Francisco
For a home in San Francisco we built a solid oak dining table on a hand-polished stainless steel base, inspired by Dieter Rams and the warmth-meets-precision look of classic Braun design. It took about a year from first sketch to delivery. Read the full story of the table.
The Cleo Table
Our Cleo Table is a modern take on the classic trestle table in solid white oak, with a sculpted base, a subtle mitered detail, mortise and tenon joinery and a hidden pin system that locks the stretcher. It is 30 inches tall and 36 inches deep, built to your length and finished in durable conversion varnish. Pricing starts at $10,550.
Built like our restaurant tables
Most of our work is for restaurants, where tables take far more abuse than any home table. We bring that to every residential piece: real joinery, solid hardwood, flat and stable tops, and finishes chosen for spills, heat and cleaning. The tables and benches we built for Slow and Low and Okesutora are built the same way your table would be.
Choosing a wood
- White oak: hard, durable and moisture resistant; works with natural, light or dark finishes
- Walnut: rich chocolate brown without stain; a little softer than oak
- Cherry: fine, even grain that deepens to a warm reddish brown over time
Our white oak vs. walnut vs. cherry guide compares them in more detail.
Sizing your dining table
- Plan about 24 inches of table edge per person, more for a roomier feel
- Standard dining height is 29 to 30 inches
- Leave about 36 inches between the table edge and walls or furniture so chairs can pull out
- A 72 by 36 inch table seats 6 comfortably; 96 inches seats 8 to 10
